The first shot is a little too different for me.

The 3rd shot is fabulous! Love the clarity and composition. It looks like the plate is floating in a black sky.

    Thanks Christina for your comments.
The floating effect was due to a black table cloth (didn't have black velvet sheet with me). The client is tendin to prefer the shots on the black background as she feels they have more impact. Personally, if everything has 'more' impact, you lose the impact. Ah well.

Couple of confessions. All available light (middle of the restaurant, no flash (with the sheet), and mainly pot lights (tungsten). I got caught short with the unexpected request (sitting down for a meal - 'would you mind taking some pics for us').
The last one only works due to the small size, I inadvertently used 3200 iso and somewhat noisy for my preference. The first two were iso200.

Graham; I think the photos would look better adjusting the WB to about 3500K.

I fiddled a bit with the third one and noticed the spoons are not the same as the tray.

    Hi Jim,
    Thanks for the fiddling.
The walls of the restaurant at painted red and gold, so the reflection from the sides of the spoons perhaps complicates matters.
I tried several settings with the RAW file, too warm and the crab cake nuggets got too yellow, too cold and the dishes looked too blue. Don't you just LOVE mixed lighting. (Client was happy with them however, just us photogs with the problems, so no major issues).
I SO wish I had my usual kit with me (flash, brolley, reflector).
    Graham
