The color and lighting of the flower is gorgeous. I also like the dark vignette.

I didn't comment about your earlier flower photos because I gather that you prefer a style that isn't appealing to me that includes the use of strong shadows and bright, contrasty backgrounds. In this case, the shadows of the flower add to the image rather than detract from it. Similarly, the bright background is displayed only on the bottom, acting almost as a spotlight shining up toward the flower (though of course that's not really the case). I still think the high contrast of the background is a bit of a detraction, but not as much here as in your other photos.

The highlights on the leaves were left for a reason, I could have done a square crop and decided against it. The light reflected from the leaves is an indication where the light came from.

That's true. However, if you displayed nothing other than the flower, you would still know where the light came from.
