Mitch: I tried something, I may a copy on another layer, applied a Gaussian Blue at 50% opacity, then using a brush I slowly remove the blur until I had only those areas I wanted sharp, the eyes completely sharp and the hair 87% to 50% removed and kept the background blured to make is soft. I have a hard time doing people. I hope this might work.

    Cheers:

    Allan,
Thank you for the thought provoking note on bluring, It never crossed my mind to use diffrent opacities to remove the blur.
That would also give depth to the shot..

    cool...

Mitch, on something in the shot itself: I notice you used an aperture of F/20. That is quite a lot of DOF for a portrait, especially if you want to isolate the subject from the background a bit more.

    Hi Mitch,
I don't know if this is what you were aiming for, but it gave me 1/2 hours fun playing with your picture.
    1. Reduced clarity in camera raw.
    2. Used proximity match tool to reduce lines and blemishes etc
    3. Gave picture a final output sharpening.
    Thanks for sharing.
    Regards
    John

    Hi Mitch!

A nice shot of a pretty model.

Peter had a good point regarding the background.

Allan mentioned what would be a starter for skin treatment. There are other techniques that, in my opinion, offer better results.

Results that soften but yet retain some texture in the skin.

A quickie with your shot. Please keep in mind Mitch I don’t do this for a living so I may be way off!

I think not, Terry. Can you explain your technique(s)? I'd love to be able to reproduce this result.

    Hi Lex!

Would it be appropriate to ask Mitch for his permission to post the explanation here since it’s his thread?

And hey? Just to further jack the thread I just found out that there is going to be a charity roller derby event here in a couple of days benefitting C.A.R.E, which is the Castaway Animal Rescue Effort.

Man, talk about coincidence! After seeing your stuff I’d love to try shooting one of these events. Probably be relegated to the stands, however!

And I’m trying to pedal some volunteer (pro bono) photography services to this organization it is two birds and one stone!
