Reading the manual is often given as advice for new photographers, rarely are field guides mentioned, perhaps because it takes time for them to be printed when the camera is introduced. I find out a lot about my particular camera as well as something about the accessories such as flash and lenses which is barely mentioned in manuals. I included the author's link because you sometimes want to see what their output looks like.
