    Death Valley in February

Just returned from Death Valley. Third time there and it is one amazing place to hike and explore. Plus 87 degree days were not bad either.

Golden Canyon at it's golden best. This is a sunset extravaganza.

Sunset at the dunes from a different perspective. Stop along the road instead of the parking lot.

I'd love it you would post these at much larger sizes. The two panoramas look wonderful as they are. But I know they would look spectacular if we could see them at larger sizes.

    Wonderful.

I'll be interested to see comment about Golden Canyon. My only question at first was whether that little bit of sky worked, or if it might have been a stronger image if it had just been a wall of rock without piece of sky appearing.

I like it, because I think that bit of sky adds in an extra element in the abstraction. Because it is very much as an image about lines, shapes and tones that I view this and the sky adds in another element to that.

As I think I've said before my own taste is not for that sort of HDR 'look' that is the first one, but it is a superb composition. Each of them is an image to be proud of.

Dave: very nice images, I was down there in early December, I think I like Golden Canyon without that bit of blue. At first I liked it but it kept drawing my eye up to it, I blocked it out and the lower area in shadow just came out for me. So I like it better with out the blue sky. That is just me.

    Cheers:

In addition to the above comments, I would also like to mention that though your post-processing is not to my taste, it's clear from these photos that you are achieving what you want to achieve...and I always admire that.

In the first photo, consider getting rid of the wire in the top left corner that is connected to nothing. It looks very out of place.

Very nice, especially like the treatment of the first image.

Love these. Will be there in a couple weeks. Guess I better spring for that prime wide-angle.

I'm not sure how much pp there was at all on the last two - such country can lie on the eye and emerge from the camera pretty much like that - clearly not called artist's palette for nothing.

I think the blue sky in "golden canyon" confers some helpful depth/distance of some sort and is nice to have in the field.
