World War II Japanese airplane: JN1N-S Gekko Irving

This is one of the few images I have made that I knew exactly how I wanted it to look in monochrome before I released the shutter. Fortunately, the image works for me as I envisioned how it might have been photographed in the early 1940s when it was flown.

Captured in 2011 and converted a few days ago. C&C encouraged, as always, though I have nothing to ask.

You're making me want to get on a plane to Washington DC and see these amazing aircraft myself.

Nice one Mike - has a subtle sepia tinge, works well...

    Indeed.

One thing worries me though; the pitch (angle) of the blades - they surely ought to all be the same, but they don't appear to be - unless I am being fooled by a peculiar blade profile.

Sorry I haven't suggest anything helpful on the shot itself
I can't think of anything to improve it

    Thanks, everyone!

Sorry, Dave, but I don't know anything about pitch other than in the context of music.

I agree with everyone who would have liked to have seen more of the aircraft. I couldn't come up with a composition that worked well due to all of the other airplanes around it.

Thanks for catching my error, Edwin. It really is a World War 1 aircraft. I was wrong in my first post when I mentioned that it would have been flown in the 1940s. Clearly, I was off by about 30 years and have edited that post.

Mike, you were correct originally. That's 1930s/40s technology we're looking at there. A WW1 airplane (oops, sorry, aeroplane) typically would have a wooden, fixed-pitch propeller. Wikipedia has the scoop.
    BTW, beautiful photo & conversion.

Hendrik is correct. This would have been 1939 to 1942 or '43 technology, with enclosed engine cover, turned [or "spun"] aluminum prop hub, etc.

The shot is quite nice, especially the toning. Too bad the prop blades are a bit askew. They should all be pitched equally, but that's not the fault of the photographer. Good shot, Mike.

Thanks guys for the correction about the dates. I somehow messed up when I initially cataloged the photo.

For those of you who want to see the entire airplane: http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1075442/ (Seeing that photo, I especially I stand by my earlier comment that a good composition of the entire plane as it is displayed is a tough situation.)
