I hate to think what it costs The tripod looks sensible.

The lens support costs about $70.00. Reviews were about 95% favorable. The 800mm costs about $12,000 (you won't see the pricing for this lens in Popular Photography) and its not on my near future purchases list.

There are other combos that can get you to about 600mm, 300mm lens with 2X teleconverter but that just adds more complications to an already troublesome task.

You must be thinking about another lens, the Nikon 800mm f/5.6 is $17,896.95! It's going to be in my near or long term future purchase for sure. It's not available yet, but it's available for preorder

You are correct about the price, perhaps the $12k was my wish list to get closer to a reasonable price.

And to think I have 950mm reach for just around $500 or 1900mm reach with a quarter crop for web use.
