There must have been some warm colors in the cast shadows.

The shadow in the color version is blue by comparison.

I like this, although, is it just me?, I feel it needs a horizontal flip.....

Interesting idea, Nat. The thought of flipping it never occurred to me, probably because I remember the scene as it happened. I wonder if people who read from right to left prefer this version and people who read from left to right would prefer a flipped version.

It's such a recognizable image that people relate to it immediately. Its not as if it were hanging from the side of a building where direction would matter.

It's not that, it's just to me it feels backwards....no matter where it's hanging. But then we all have individual opinions, and I was just sayin'

Decided to try a two versions. First is with the grainy Art Filter on Olympus 4/rd, second converted from color.

I like the second one better because the first one is too contrasty (lacking sufficient middle tones) for my taste. You could improve the second one by bringing out a little more detail in the far left and right areas. Consider also cropping to eliminate most of the street. Other than that detail, the composition works really well for me.

The filter used by Olympus deliberately adds extra grain, I have very little success with this filter when shooting during daylight hours. I like the color conversion process also, a bit more warmth in the tones.
