Re: Aleijadinho's Passion of Christ
Fascinating, Otavio. Not only does leprosy cause limb loss, it renders appendages completely insensate, and it is amazing to me that a sculptor could retain enough control and position sense to accomplish his work. Thanks for sharing these.

A lovely story of talent and dedication to his work despite very difficult physical challenges. I really like your composition on image #2 Otavio.

Re: Aleijadinho's Passion of Christ
#2 has great color and composition. I just wish you had lit it, perhaps with a bounced flash that could have resulted in more diffuse light, to lessen the harsh shadows falling on the background.

Re: Aleijadinho's Passion of Christ
Hi Kevin. Thank you very much for viewing and commenting. To be honest, I always thought more about the physical aspect of the disease but you are absolutely right about this psychological effect that come together. That, to me, make his work still greater! Kindest regards.

Re: Aleijadinho's Passion of Christ
Otavio,
I saw the works of Aleijadinho in 1967, when I was only 14. I'll schedule a trip to Minas Gerais to visit the Historic Towns and revise the Prophets and the Passion of Christ.
Thank you for sharing the photos of these works of art. You are helping to publicize the work of this great artist.
Greetings,
Antonio.

Re: Aleijadinho's Passion of Christ
Hi Mike. Thanks for your comments. I agree with you and I really wish I could get closer to the sculptures so that my flash (built in
) would work better, but they (sculptures) are placed inside small rooms and we can only watch/shoot them through protection grids.
Kindest regards...

Re: Aleijadinho's Passion of Christ
Many thanks for putting this up.
I learned something.
Since my late teens, I have been fascinated with the tragedy that is Leprosy.
It started when I read "Ten fingers for God' by Dorothy Clarke Wilson.
Inspirational thread.
