Soaring
Here is another shot from my L&D14 trip. It's pretty conventional but shows the eagle's plumage nicely in the bright light. This is highly cropped from the original. I'm planning to make several more trips before the eagles depart in late February.
1Ds III, 500 f/4 IS, ISO 400, f/7.1, 1/1600, manual mode

Re: Soaring
If only I could shoot that conventionally. This and your other shot are very nice.

Re: Soaring
Still looks good, for a heavy crop. Have you considered using a TC. That full frame camera , really limits your reach.

Re: Soaring
Hi Steve,
I have a 1.4 Mark II that I tried on the 500 when I first got the lens. I wasn't that impressed but the fault might have been more mine than the lens + TC. Shooting with the 500 is more demanding and my "long lens technique" was not very good. I'll take the TC along on my next trip and give it another try on those "shy" eagles.
My 1Ds does not have the reach of a 1D series but its 23 mp resolution makes nice landscapes. I'm not a professional photographer so most of my gear is second-hand. It's old and out-of-date, just like me!
