Regarding "Portrait" processing (Black and White)

Hi Guys,

I have seen many portrait pics that are really really so rich in texture and detail. The subject(mainly face of a person) will have grungy kind of highlights/details but the space around the subject will be black/dark. something like these pics,

I am curious to know what kind of processing will be involved in such pics. I know processing plays a major role in these kind of pics. If someone can throw some light about this it would really help me a lot

great images there..Ashok saravanan is one of my fav b/w photographer.he and his some friends come up with good crispy grungy b/w potraits. i think they use the high pass filter in photoshop to reveal the details . There is an effective use of burn and dodge combined with masking , and usage of a plugin preferably silver efex pro.

Agree, the High Pass Filter is very effective for this sort of image.

That's cool. The processing is really appealing.
I jus have a doubt,
I can see the background is originally yellow(if i am right ) but after processing its pitch dark. All i want is this. Is there any specific thing u have done to get BG pitch black or its a part of process steps mentioned in that link?

Hi Vinodvvk, the black background is part of the Photobotos process, you use a black brush, I like the process but would try on a subject that is not so close.

Google Dragan effect. I'll try to find relevant article with step by step instructions for the gritty look.
I don't have HDR, so I use this method.
