I think they look pretty good Allen!! You've created some very interesting light, and great expressions!

Maybe I would suggest you move to a little different pose, rather than the shoulders-square-on, that was brought up as looking a little like a passport photo in another thread. Although, I don't think you're first shot here would qualify as a good passport photo, you may get some interesting looks in the airport!!

Curious how I came across these images today. Just last night I was thinking to myself to try some self portraits and having a light behind me to see the results.

I find these images appealing and well done. I like the balance of lighting taking place.

Thank you guys. Erik, it was trial and error to get the lighting where i wanted, only had a rough idea where i wanted my 2 flashes. The hardest problem with this shot was not the lights, it was the focusing. It was done at night time outside with no moon, and overcast which made it darker. Not entirely happy with the focusing on the images, what i did was had a torch in my hand while i used a trigger to get the camera to focus on me, and turned of auto focus than i fine tuned it the best i could from there. Next time i will just walk up to the shed with my gear, repeated trips, and set up my diy backdrop stand and put up my black backdrop and have the lights on while focusing. I didnt do that last night because i didnt want to put the dog away, and grab my gear and walk up to the shed, a fair distance from my house(farm). Yes, lazyness provailed and paid the price for it.

And i like doing self portraits for a few reasons, one, it teaches me about lighting and light positions, and know my camera more, and im the model although it can be bad sometimes, hahahaa. Plus you can have fun with it, you can do normal portraits, ie, smile and shoot. Or you can make it fun, and diffrent, for example, drinking beer, playing chess with your clones, clones, the possibilities are endless, its finding the time and not being lazy is the problem. Thats what im concentrating on.
