    Compleat Angler in Mist

I have been trying to perfect making images in mist. You would think with all the mist we have on the river I would have perfected this by now. You have to get the mist level quite right as too much obliterates the picture and too little does nothing at all.

This is Marlow Weir on the River Thames with the Compleat Angler (yes - this is how they spell it) adjacent. with swirling mist rising from the water and clear sky above showing the moon.

Your comments will be gratefully received.

Like the shot very much -it has a tranquility about it from the soft light.

Saw the Compleat Angler in your last photo of the weir. If anyone out there doesn't know, the spelling and name are from the book by Izaak Walton (couldn't even spell his own name !)

Very nice. I know this area well and think you have captured it superbly.

    Hi Chris,

It is notable how the mist is behind the building but not in front and this shows how localised the mist swirls can be there.

What this means is that however much you shoot, the conditions 'next time' are unlikely to be the same

You must have observed how quickly it changes there with a bit of sun breakthrough - I think the water makes it more unstable than mist in a field or valley.

If mine, I think I might have taken out one or two of the foreground white bits in the water though.

I am guessing that is the moon up there, top centre?

    Cheers,

    Have a guess :)

    Hi Chris,

As a "general rule" (from my observations) mist shots work best if the mist sufficiently obliterates an unsavoury background (kinda like a light grey seamless) but leaves the contrast of the foreground intact. Pretty much what you have here, although I'd be tempted to crop a little tighter and run a burn tool (set to shadows) over the buildings just to improve the local contrast where the fog has reduced it.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Perhaps in hindsight the title is a bit misleading as the mist is behind the Compleat Angler covering Marlow Weir.
