I was wondering why you decided to go with so much foreground and whether a 16:9 (cropping off some of the bottom) worked?

Donald's suggested crop would remove the little bright patches at the bottom that I find are a bit distracting. However the composition works fine for me but would like the mushrooms!? removed and the mid tones and contrast lifted slightly.

A thought provoking image for sure. I believe the crop Donald suggests would only make this image stronger.

I tried so many crops of the foreground with this and couldn't find one that kept the undulating texture of the saltpans (without looking like a crop)...and then there's the grass diagonal on the left that I quite like. In the end I left it .
Please feel free to crop it as you see fit Donald I am sure you would get it spot on

I do like that crop Donald and the picture is probably better balanced but the terrain just loses some of that wonderful 'crater like' texture.

This retains the craters. Though it loses some of the solitary feeling, I think it retains some of it. It's also a more traditional placement of the person, which may make it less appealing.
