    Abbreviations, terms, and such like

Could we maintain, someplace on this forum, a convenient mechanism for people who may be unfamiliar with things like abbreviations and similar shortcut references to find the interpretation of these, please?

For example, I keep seeing C&C which I assume to be comments and something else, but I can't think of what the other C represents.

Then, this morning, I came across OP which I assume to be some kind of photographer, but I can't figure out what the O represents. In my world, OP is Outdoor Photographer and that's clearly not the meaning in the thread I was reading.

    Thank you.

Hi Virginia, here are some of the more common photography acronyms.

    C&C - Comment and Critique

I'm not sure about OP. IMHO, I think folks make this stuff up on the fly to get people to LOL!

Reviewing glossary's and a bit of followup on confusing items is a good way to expand your knowledge.

And of course CinC refers to Cambridge in Colour on this site, not a military rank.

Abbreviations and shortened spelling is generally used a lot less here than on some sites.

First, thanks to Frank and Allen for C&C and OP (the two that have been making me nuts). And, thanks also for the pointers to photography terms which will certainly prove useful when I hear of somebody needing to add those sorts of terms to their vocabularies.

I'm familiar with most of the web, tweet, and messaging terms like AFAIK, WYSIWYG, etc., having been in those environments since the early 1990s.

    Thanks again for informing me.

In this forum at least, OP is Original Poster, as mentioned above. Cheers, Dave

Re: Abbreviations, terms, and such like

You can find the definition of almost any term by going to Google and typing in define: plus the term you want defined. However, as Dave mentions OP means: Original Poster "OP" is not a photographic term but, rather an abbreviation that is used throughout Internet forums of all types...

I try to get into the habit of capitalizing phrases I intend to use as acronyms, but, Maybe That's Just Me.

I think this does help other readers who might be new to the material being covered (and that it does help to assume newcomers don't necessarily know what common but specialized acronyms might mean) but, MTJM.

I seldom if ever use IMHO because I am not often humble... I frequently use IMO "in my opinion" because my wife says that I am opinionated

LOL... what my sister would refer to as a "Group Seven Error"... "Equipment Not At Fault" or what I like to call a "User Interface Error"
