    Hurricane Sandy

    Hey all,

For those of you who have may have not heard we had quite the hurricane in the northeast this past week. I live in Hoboken which was crippled for several days due to flooding. I fortunately live in a third floor apartment and suffered no damages. Although the garage and lobby level did flood. Today I finally got power back after a week without so I couldn't wait to process the photos I have been taking of the recovery process.

Jason - Important historical records of an awful event. You might want to link your thread here to that started by Paul, which is here.

Good to know you're OK, Jason. Have some friends up that way who were also without power for a while. Glad you're back up and running and able to post these pictures.

I got annoyed with the BBC who by radio interviewed some chap and his family sailing his luxury yacht right into the storm; because he said it was too much of an investment to be smashed up in port. They never said what happened to them.

    Re: Hurricane Sandy

This BBC guy probably never lived through a hurricane!
Here in Texas we went through Rita and Ike - 3 years after Ike we're still cleaning up downed trees in the woods.
My sympathy goes out to all on the East Coast who had to go through Sandy.
Hope you get your life back on track soon.

Thank you for posting these. I wondered how many of our members are affected. I'm glad at least that your apartment faired well and hope things return to normal fairly soon.

    Re: Hurricane Sandy

Thank you so much for sharing. My thoughts have been with friends and indeed the general population of the East Coast over the past 10 days. I lived through Yasi last year here in North Queensland, but found that the shock was too much for me to pick up my camera at the time. We were lucky; much less populated area and the timing of crossing was low tide which helped with the storm surge. I wish now that I had been able to take the photos of what I was seeing, but I tried at the time and simply found I couldn't. It took me a couple of weeks, and even then I limited myself to the destruction within the natural landscape. I always value this kind of social documentation; I feel it can reach out and touch others in a way that builds empathy.

    Thanks everyone,

Im glad to hear everyone's concerns for our situation. Honestly Hoboken didn't get hit nearly as bad as south jersey did. I consider myself very lucky. I was able to get my car into one of the last spots in a multi-level garage. Others weren't as fortunate. I had the opportunity to process some more photos this evening.

has there since been any word on if they made it through the storm? I heard that some of the navy ships were sent out too.

    Update:

We are getting a snow storm in our area today. Thousands of people still do not have power. My thoughts are with them tonight.
