Hi,

Nice shot. Seems like it can have a little cropping on the top.
Looks smokey on top of the bridge.Was it drizzling when this shot was taken? The river looks like a cemented road. Maybe it's my laptop monitor. Just a little angle off, and it changes colors/shapes/etc.

I'm still looking at Philip's suggestion (Post#20). What doesn't work is to rotate and correct perspective - it distorts the shape of that closest cantilever section of the bridge.

So I have the choice of trying what Philip has suggested, or just leaving it alone. Will come back to it at the weekend and ponder some more.

Victor - I don't think I'd be looking to do any cropping at the top as I don't think there is room to do a corresponding crop at either side to maintain the 1:1 ratio. It wasn't raining at all. In fact it was just starting to become a glorious morning. Perhaps what you see is the effect of the 30 second exposure.

It looks like most people have covered all the bases with their comments. But, just to add mine. It was only when I viewed it at full size that it became clear what a good photograph this was. The composition,clarity and detail really shine through. A great image.

I must admit that the image looks good as it is! I personally, wouldn't change it!

Hello Donald,
it is a great picture. I like the strange "from an other time" effect, like an iron giant emerging from the fog. There is also a strange perspective distortion/tric of the eye effect. In Lightbox I can see the jagged shoreline, advancing where the first rear foot of the bridge sits. Our brain tells us the shore line should be a "line"... Also the two footing touching the water defy perspective lines. Dumb brain.
If I recall and understood correctely, you shoot a rectangle image that it later cropped to make a 1:1? Is it possible that a distortion correction if applied should be on the original to respect the original ratio of the image?. Please correct me if I did not understand this ratio photo tacking method.

I love the image just the way it is, it takes me out of the regular most travel path.

Again, if I understand your question correctly, you are correct.

I do any corrections of this nature (rotation, perspective, distortion, etc) at the RAW processing stage with DxO Optics. My cropping is always done after any of these corrections are applied.

I have really enjoyed each of these images.

I read the posts about the rotation, but I don't think it matters as there is nothing vertical to reference to. The only thing to use as a reference is the horizontal top portion of the large concrete piers, but these are at an angle to the camera and are subject to perspective as well.
In the end the image is atmospheric and draws me in and makes me want to be there.
