    Bcnh

    Black-crowned night heron.

This guy has been staying as far away from me as he could all summer. Then suddenly yesterday he decides that I am friendly. Worst part is I was not prepared for him to do that. Very quick come and go....

Best I could manage under the circumstances.

C&C welcomed and appreciated. Please fire away.

The first one is fantastic capture Bobo. The bird blends wonderful with the background.

The symmetry is #2 is also great but I find the top part a bit distracting.

The last one looks blurred on my monitor. The second one is really good for a typical pose.

The first one? Ah, the first one. Very dramatic, I really love the action in the capture and the story this image tells! Nice job, Bobo!

Thanks Miltos, concentrating on the main subject and lost the big picture - as usual! Will try and see what can be done with #2. Regarding #1 took a few pointers from suggestions in Joe's Tri-colored Heron post.

Thanks Frank - about #3, there nothing wrong with your eyes or monitor.

I think ~2 has a special sort of charm with the reflection and the look on it's face.

    ~1 is spectacular.

    ~3....made my ears bleed.

    Thanks Sharon.

Regarding #3 - Let's get the cat out of the bag since no one has picked that out yet. It's a reversed reflection only shot.

I think #1 is a great capture and it looks lit up against the background which I like.

#2 is actually my favorite and I don't think you lost the big picture at all. The top is not distracting to me. I think it adds to the natural environment and shows what's reflected in the water. The bird and it's reflection and the colors are really great. My first reaction when seeing the image was WOW.

    Great job.

    Thanks Terri.

I do appreciate the kind words regarding #1 but why do I keep feeling that it may just be somewhat over cooked?

Perhaps the heron is perfectly exposed for sunlight but the background would typically not be quite that dark for a sunlit scene?

It works for me because it provides excellent separation between the bird and the background but you might be able to stand slightly less separation and still get an excellent image?

Very nice captures. But another BCNH thread. We really ought to bring them together. I know I've got some more - but I don't tag my photos, so it is a bit of a challenge finding them!
