    Wood Duck

Finally after weeks of waiting, some decided to come close enough for a reasonable shot.

Worth the wait. They're all good, but that first one really holds the attention. The lighting effect created on the surface behind it and the reflection - just wonderful.

I like the last one! Their butts are cute and he is turning as if to say. "What are you looking at?" LOL

They are all wonderful, the reflections in the water really make them special.

    Thanks Donald, Joe, Gretchen.

Yes they are pretty shy and scare easily. Was a test of patience here.

    Hi Bobo,
High Park in Toronto is a great place to see/photo them (as you probably already know) and I've regularly fed them there. So close I had full frame at 200mm or less.
One of my favourite birds, the female wood duck (along with the female Nothern Cardinal). Love the understated delicate quality of the colours and their shape. So much more elegant than the in your face everything flashy males.
Nice pics, memories of Toronto for me.

Thanks Graham, this group took up residence in that pond last year and this year there are like 10-15 of them. Unlike those in other places they are pretty shy and run off. I have yet to see the male.

BTW - where have you been hiding? Have not seen you in a while.
