Very nice bird. You must have been quite close. The light seems strong. I would suggest to lower the intensity of exposure(in P.P.) and a bit of sharpening should bring him out more. Good shot!

I'm totally amazed anyone can get such good shots of birds or any moving animal. I can't even get a good shot of my "well-trained show" dogs. It's beautiful. My only thought is that you don't really need the dried grasses to the left and I'd crop them out. I think I must have been trained to crop, crop, crop because it seems the only suggestion I ever have. Or maybe I'm too ADHD and don't like any distractions.

I do like his red eye and the reflection of his leg in the water. The angles of the horizontally slanted grasses to his left and bottom balance his body angle nicely. Really pretty bird, IMHO.

Good image Dave. They are elusive birds.

Well done Dave, you've put the bird right in it's environment. Good catch light in that glorious red eye. In PP I would reduce the brightness of the background a bit to make the bird pop a bit more.

I have never seen one before and suddenly there are two threads active (started on either side of the Atlantic Ocean) that feature this bird. Amazing. Just click here for the other one.

Thanks for the feedback, and for taking the time to comment. I'm going to have a go at trying to get the bird to "pop" more, though my PP skills are "developing".

Although I'm not going to crop it right down, because I like to see animals and birds in their environment, one of the things I do like about this forum is that you get ideas that you didn't have for yourself.
