    First Post - Coastal Views

    Hi,
My names John and I signed up to the CiC community some time ago but have not posted any images until now. So here goes!
Here are a couple of images taken at a beach not far from my home. They were shot within about an hour of each other at the end of a very wet day.
The light and mood were changing rapidly (as they often do in landscapes). I was trying to capture some of that moodiness – not sure if I have though.
I would appreciate any comments/critiques you may have.

Hi John, I think you have captured some of the moodiness, particularly in the light dancing off the ripples of the ocean.

One compositional aspect that is very difficult to make work well is a horizon that evenly bisects the image across the middle. Usually you would want to see what which half is less interesting and reduce that to about one-third of the scene. In the first image, try scrolling the window up until you can only see about half of the sky and see if it moves the moodiness of the lone fisherman in the right direction for you.

The Jacob's Ladders image has kind of a heavenly feel to it.

Agreed; keep posting! The second one is very appealing for all the obvious reasons (at least they're obvious to me. )

Welcome and nice introductory images. I like the first one best...perhaps in black and white?

Hi John, I normally don't like "post card" type pictures of beaches etc. Your first one is unique tho. The beach almost looks like an inverted image of the water --very cool. And the sky balances the two contrasting images. Fisherman is a nice focal point. Very cool!

    Thank you for your comments.
I was unsure about having the horizon in the middle in the photo of the fisherman, I know this breaks the rules. However I felt the image might be a little bottom heavy due to the dark beach without a big sky to balance it a bit. I shall try out some different crops though.
