Nice picture Alis ...
OK.
I like the shot because you caught a good moment, which I caught myself in this very similar shot 'Mother and child' http://www.carregwenimages.com/secti...30_171644.html
I'm not a big fan of portrait shots where the model just stares at the camera with a blank backdrop behind them, although I do take them. A portrait should either have a context (place of work, or doing activity of some kind) or, there should be a 'story' to the picture, as you have achieved here. So well done for that. I like the juxtaposition of the man's (father?) relaxed look, and the boy's slight tension - he is obviously wanting to get at something/someone.
I do think the shot would benefit from some more contrast to give it a bit more punch. B&W conversions can be tricky. The shadow of the man's cap is a bit distracting.
Overall, I think it's good. Which is where I started out.
For a couple of seconds I thought I see Robert DeNiro
Nice photo ... I like the expression on the child's face.

Thanks, this is much better.
I agree with your comments. This one, just so you know, was shot at the beach, although because it is black and white now, it does not show the sky that well. I change them usually to black and white when I have a not so good shot. I have noticed that they make very good B&W pictures
