I won't tell you how superlative these are until you tell me where you live to photograph the little beauties.

Thanks frank, they let me get quite close. They move around really quick, so you have to be fast on the shutter button.

Thanks joe, i live in WVa. I take these shots in my backyard, over several feeders. I place branches in strategic spots for them to land on.(i wire tie them to a tree next to the feeder. They like bare limbs in the shade to rest on and watch over the feeders)

Thank Steve, now I will say that the detail is beyond belief and then the colors. I am in awe. W. Va., I am surprised. I live in the semi-tropics and only see an occasional one. I have even put out feeders, without any coming to them. Keep shooting and posting them, I love looking at them.

The male is starting to look a little disheveled -- is he moulting or are there other males around that he's been tussling with?

Brilliant photos, as always...great compositions and the detail is just amazing.
