    Had a visitor today...

I got home today and walked out in the back yard to see if my buddy was back. Yesterday evening as it got dark...I heard the crows going nuts.
This usually means there is a bird of prey about and they are hasseling it.
Sure enough there he sits maybe 12' up inside one of my trees.

    I give you my buddy....the Barred Owl. Handheld and braced against a tree....ISO 400 1/4sec @ F8 320mm

Great shot Paul, it looks a little lighter colored feathers than the ones in Florida. Here they are more brown.

    Thanks Ryo.

Thanks Joe. He is pretty light on the front...a bit darker on the back. Which I was thankful for as it was a bit dark under the tree.

    Thank you Jon.

Thank you Steve, it took me a few trys to get one I was happy with. I did try some higher iso shots but it was still slow and the contrast was a little lacking.

I dunno Paul. You gotta slow down. I'm running out of superlatives for your magnificent images.

Wait! That doesn't make any sense. I really DO want to see more of your skillful photographs. Please ignore the second sentence!

An absolutely beautiful capture. I can't think of anything I'd change. Well, maybe clone out the twig coming out on the left side of the branch he is sitting on. There! Now I feel like I've made a contribution that might help.

Paul, rock steady hands, man! I notice you're in Seattle...are you one of the few up there not addicted to coffee? Seriously, very impressive at 1/4 sec. - 320mm. Beautiful shot and a magnificent subject!

Thanks Frank, appreciate the kind words.

Kerry, thank you. I have to admit I drink a quad shot Mocha every morning. lol The tree helped a bit and like I said, it took me a couple to get one that I was happy with. Either he moved, I moved or the breeze fluffed his feathers. lol

Add me to the jealous list. It is so hard to find one and you get one in your backyard. Grrrrr

Great capture btw. 1/4s handheld - now that is impressive.

    Thank you Clive.

Thank you Bobo, I saw him once a couple months back and got a shot but it was a night shot with flash. It was not horrible but I did not like the flash look. I am glad he has decided he likes it here, maybe I will see him more often.

As long as he does not feel threatened he will return. Obviously there should be his preferred food supply available to be hunted.

Remember the Asian one I took some pics of in HK? This pair has been returning to the same tree for a number of years. Just keep fingers crossed.

    Hi Paul,
Marvellously Brilliant, the background just suits him to a tee, ranks up with the best owl shots I have had the pleasure to view, keep it up,
    Best Wishes Pat

At the risk of appearing lazy, ditto to all of the above.
