is Nikon 50mm f/1.8D mountable on Nikon3100

i dont think the D lens will autofocus on the 3100,the G lens definitely will,http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/50mm-f18-g.htm

I have this lens on Nikon D3000 but it is only manual focus. Good lens though.

I own the lens and it requires a camera with an internal focusing motor for autofocus to work, which the D3100 lacks. You can use it as a manual focusing lens only.

I find it's a bit of an odd lens to use on a crop frame camera; very short telephoto. It falls into a focal length I rarely use

As said it will fit and expose correctly but you won't get auto focus - get the newer AF-S version if you want AF.

As Manfred said its a bit of an odd length on a crop camera, I have one but can't remember the last time it was out of the bag. I have a Nikon AF-S 35mm f1.8 lens which is rarely off the camera, my advice would be this lens and not a 50.

I'm with Robin on this one. The f/1.8 35mm is my urban walk-about lens on my D90 and the f/1.8 50mm on my D800.

More or less following in the footsteps of Henri Cartier-Bresson that way...

Whereas I use this FL quite frequently at gigs & other 'events'... along with 35mm and 85mm fast primes

I meant to say I use this FL on crop-frame... I also find it useful for portraits, particularly where space is restricted
