Re: Mirror problem with newly purchased pre-used 5D

    Hello,

I'm not a new member, but it's been a while since I've posted. I wanted to start a new thread in the camera technology category, but it seems that I am unable to.

I just purchased a used Canon 5D from B&H and was only able to use it for maybe 25 photos before the mirror became unattached. I wonder if anyone has run into this problem with the mirror, and if so is this something that can be corrected, or is the camera completely ruined?

Heather - As advised in the New Member thread, I have moved your question here.

I haven't heard of that problem, but it is certainly fixable. Given that you got the camera from a very reputable dealer, is it not covered by warranty?

    Have a guess :)

    Hi Heather,

It's a known problem with the 5D. My understanding is that Canon will fix it free of charge regardless of the warranty status.

B&H have the best reputation in the industry too -- so I'm sure they'll look after you (if they don't let me know, and I'll see if I can do something).

Here's the Canon USA Product Advisory for the problem. There's support contact information at the bottom of the page.

If you're in the L.A. area, just walking in to the Irvine service center might be faster, though.
