With canon cameras you can often infer the shutter count based on the original file name. Not sure if this is also the case with the Nikon cameras...
You can, but only if the user has selected that option in the menu, and kept it, and even so, it rolls back to '0' at 10,000 images
have you tried Opanda EXIF reader?
http://www.opanda.com/en/iexif/
it reads our D50, D70 and D300*. It shouldn't be a problem for D70 cuz it doesn't have live view.
*I heard shutter count is a real nightmare when live view comes in play.
tq..for the advise i will try soon
Does Opanda have a total shutter count field in it somewhere? I've never noticed.
Hi,
I use Nikon D200 I was able to see the shutter count from EXIF data values for
"Image Count" and "Shutter Count" in flickr.
An example from the flickr page
http://www.flickr.com/photos/_ajith/3263378579/meta/
Please search for "Image Count" and "Shutter Count" in this page.
You will find my camera shutter count.
Image Count: 12249
Shutter Count: 12249

Thanks for the shutter info. I just bought my Nikon D2xs from Nikon Canada as a new old stock body for under 1g. Before I took it home they had it checked and cleaned and calibrated and it was dead on. When I asked about the shutter count they only said it was real low. So on one of my flickr pic's I just found out the count is about 2200.,which is less than I thought. This info age can get a bit scary and with the GPS add on it evn tells you where you were at the time of the shot and maybe which direction you were shooting as well. A friend told me that within 10 years cameras could read you retina when you shoot as well. I guess anything on a small chip is coming to our cameras.
You can give http://www.camerashuttercount.com/ a try.
You can also get it with KUSO.
Pops
You can use Preview Extractor to check
Have fun!

Don't know, I'm afraid. But I once asked a new girl-friend how many lovers she had had. I got a slap around the face. So, be careful...
As mentioned earlier - opanda - great little piece of software.
For most Canon users there is a nice piece of software available EOSInfo on www. astrojargon.net.
For Nikon users check this: http://drchung.new21.net/previewextractor/

I think if you you use IrfanView it will find the shutter count on many different model cameras.
Just load up any photo, click the menus: image, information, exif and scroll down.
I have a Pentax K10 DSLR I'm trying to sell on Craig's List in Denver and a prospective buyer asked about the shutter count. How do I find that?
Thanks
