    Battery question

    Hi Folks,
I was wondering if there would be any danger in putting a Canon BP-511A, 7.4v, 1390mAh battery and a INO V8 BP-511, 7.4v, 1300mAh battery together in a battery grip, the grip is for the 50D.

    Have a guess :)

No - it's fine. Just make sure they're both fully charged when you do it, and keep them charged as a pair when you refit them (don't for example put one fully charged one alongside a flat one).

What Colin says is exactly right. The batteries are likely running in parallel and if you put one partially charged battery in with a fully charged one, you will get a situation where charge reversal occurs and permanently damage the battery.

Also - you can usually run a grip with just 1 of the 2 batteries (often people only use a grip to improve the balance of the camera) (you should have seen the "balance" of mine last night -- it's a 1D3 - so "built in" grip - flash on top - bracket on bottom - cable relief on the left - heavy lens on front - and pocket wizard Plus II duct taped to the cable relief -- starting to look more like a concrete block!).

Delighted to hear I can run the grip with one battery as the main reason for using it is for balance.
Should have it shortly, got a good one secondhand at a very resonable price, with a battery thrown in.
    Best Wishes, Pat
