Warblers and American Gold Finch
Finally got out a little this last weekend. Here are a couple from my attempts to chace the small birds. C&C always welcome.
Orange Capped Warbler

Yellow-Rumped Warbler

American Gold Finch.....while possible not a Finch at all some say.

Lovely pictures of not the easiest subject! My favourite is the Yellow-Rumped Warbler. It's a shame the catkin (do you call them that in the US?) is in front of the Finch in the last picture.
You certainly have some lovely colourful birds your side of the sea, I wish we had such varied varieties in the UK. Out of interest, why would some not call it a Finch? With a beak like that It couldn't be anything else.

Re: Warblers and American Gold Finch
Thanks Andy, yes catkin or something close. Although it could be worse. I was happy it did not full cross his body.
Appearently that little bird is a highly debate little guy among some groups. As far as I have always known it's a finch. lol A small one but still a finch. I agree with you on the beak. I am unsure why some chose to not recognize it for what it is.

Great images Paul, we have those in Florida but I have not seen them yet. Maybe someday.

Re: Warblers and American Gold Finch
I was wondering where you had gone off to.
They are so small and fast and move around so much that one needs a lot of patience to get some shots. It is usually a case of you move they run so just stay put and let them come to you. The alternative is use a monster lens.
Nicely done on these.

Re: Warblers and American Gold Finch
Thanks Joe, they can be tough to find...then again they may be the small birds you see daily and you just don't realise it because they are so small the light has to be right and you have to be close or you see no color. lol Keep looking.
Thank you Bobo, it's the busy season for me. I am still around but crazy busy. I guess I should not complain, I still get to shoot some even while working.

Hi Paul, nice images well done on tricky subjects. Do you use some sort of hide or are these birds used to people?

Re: Warblers and American Gold Finch
Thanks Clive, neither really. They are very spooky and fast. When I get to a stand of trees where I think they may like I move slowly, sometimes sit and wait and listen for their song. Many times it is the only way to spot them. Once I have spotted them I anticipate where and when they may come. Sometimes they do, most times not or they do but are just to fast. lol
