Re: Night Herons
A lot of background clutter in the top two. I think I would crop these down considerably. Other than that, good captures of birds just doing their "thang." Last one is a bit OOF.

Re: Night Herons
Thanks Johnny.
Tighter cropping would mean losing the flying feather fragments so kept as much as possible.
@#4 - if is not OOF, it is a combination of a tight crop and also some softening in pp as the sharp version at this tight a crop looked a bit "intimidating".

Tighter crop of #2.

Wider version of #4.

Re: Night Herons
Thanks Paul. I too am after the greenie, not seen one yet but I know of one but have not been able to pinpoint his timing yet. Apparently he goes for fish in one place but goes away for the night. I have him in flight (with a 50mm, lol) so will just have to be more persistent this year.

Bobo
For some reason I really loved 4. Was waiting for him to peck me on the nose. Was thinking that a little attention to the leaf in lower left would make it a keeper for me.
you and Paul seem to get the great captures on our winged friends. JimC

Re: Night Herons
Thanks Ryan.
Thanks Jim - yes that leaf is just too big to try to clone out in a convincing way. I have like 15 shots of him in that branch but he did not move his head out of the way in even one of them. Grrrrr
Compared to Paul, I have far fewer opportunities then he does.
After you get the feel for it from shooting lots and often, everyone can become a great bird photographer so keep at it.

Re: Night Herons
Good shots Bobo...#2 and #3 I like best. I have not been fortunate to photograph the Night Heron, hopefully someday.

Re: Night Herons
Thanks Girish. Love your shot with the light hitting just the right places. Mine did not get the same light unfortunately.
Love the colour, just the right amount of sharpness and the pp is great. Well done.

Re: Night Herons
Very nice shots. I like all of them, but it would be nice if you could get rid of the background lines in the first two.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: Night Herons
Great shots - when I saw the first, the name "Muhammed Ali" came into my mind..
Can't think why.

Re: Night Herons
Thanks Chuck, I will try but am poor at large scale background fixes of such scale.
Thanks Peter. For some reason I still call him Cassius Clay.
What caused that pose? He was coming in to land and did not do a good job of it so was flapping all over to regain balance. Saw him coming in but was not fast enough to get focused in flight.
