    Ft. Pike on Lake Pontchartrain

I stopped on the new bridge, on the shoulder, and took this shot. Please, I welcome all comments and suggestions. This is a long shot with the 17-55mm lens. Ft. Pike is one of many forts built to protect the City of New Orleans well before the Civil War. It has modern homes in the back ground and I have tried cropping but the image just does not look good that way to me, too long and short. The bridge is the only high spot for this kind of shot.

Sometimes you just have to take what you can get, Anyway, this is quite a piece of history. I imagine it was a pretty nasty duty station in the days before the advent of air conditioning!

Yes it was very hot in the summer and cold in the winter it is also very damp and slippery inside with all the water even some seeping through the floor. The cannons mounted inside had to be rough on folks when fired. I have been through it a number of years ago. Will go back another day and walk through it taking pictures as I go.

I wondered what a crop at a 16:9 aspect ration, using the existing top and sides and cropping the bottom, would be like? I'm not sure that we need to see as much water at the bottom. Taking some of it out, would put our attention more on the fort

Here is a better cropped version. It does bring the fort more to the front of things. Thanks!

Carl, I hope you don't mind me having a play, I didn't see your edit until I had finished and it is quite close to the same, a 2 to 1 short pano. Although I did adjust the black and white points some and give it a slight sharpening. Cool shot.
