Andrew - I would like to see these 'aged' a bit through the application of some toning and vignette's. I think that might give them some extra 'punch' .... or maybe not. But I'd be tempted to try it to see if it worked.

I may have taken "a bit" to an extreme, but I think you were right - I originally liked the washed out look, but they were a little flat.

Do you think this works better?

Maybe a little far for my taste, but now we get a much better to tone on the young person (your son?)

Yea, that's what I thought... Nope, it's just a group of kids jumping off the pier at a local beach - thought I might capture some good shots. Thanks Donald!

I like the composition of the first one, not sure about the exposure though, too much whiteness?
The kids look good, but the background not so much for my tastes.

I like the B&W finish but probably a bit too high key for me - I'd be inclined to tone down the exposure a little. #1 is probably my favourite but I'd crop a bit tighter as the face of the structure the kids are standing on doesn't add too much to the photo.

As it is, a picuture of strangers, I wouldn't crop the bottom of #1 at all as I think this absolutely provides context to the image.
If it was my kid then yeah, I would crop the bottom so I could see him better.
    All subjective isn't it
