Trying to install these camera updates have previously confused me so much that I never bother now. That was on a 40D.
Just wonder if anybody has tried to install an update for the Canon 7D and had problems like this person, on a UK wildlife site.

I've installed 2 firmware updates on my 7D (v1.2.3 and v1.2.5) and had no problems at all on either occasion. I always read the instructions all the way through twice before I do anything, and be sure to have enough time to complete the procedure before I start.

Hi Geoff,
I've had no problems upgrading the firmware either through the USB cable (using the EOS utility) or by placing the firmware on the compact flash card and updating from with the camera.
All my custom settings were preserved during the upgrade.
