    Duck, duck, goose...

Well now I manage to get closer to a Wood duck....and it is snowing. lol I will perservere! The little white guy is a Male Bufflehead and this is the nearest I have been able to get thus far. He is the smallest species of diving duck in North America.

Thanks Steve, I do like the snow shots at times but was just hoping for a little light to light up his colors. These ducks can be stunning in the right light.

    Thanks Clive, will do.

They are beautiful ducks, prob. my favorite. They are very skitish around here. They won't let you get anywhere near them.

Those are gorgeous. The third one, with all the definition in the gold feathers on its side, is beautiful.

I agree with the sentiments expressed in other posts above - You really have raised the bar with this set. Beautiful lighting. Clarity is superb and, therefore, the detail. They are all good, but that last one of the goose - the lighting in that is just outstanding, even down to the catchlight in the eye.

    Excellent work

Well, I am not imagining that the ducks around here are also returning? It seems early, but there has been a flock of them that have been landing in a big field by the river around 8 AM each morning for the past week. I wonder if it's just different waves of migrating birds I've seen landing.

Looking forward to seeing more of your shots!

Thanks James and Jack. It certainly takes some doing and quiet sitting time and a bit of luck. A blind would be ideal if you have a spot that you know they will be at. These and those little darn bufflehead are the hardest ducks to sneak up on for me so far. Good luck and I look forward to seeing shots from both of you!
