just some shooting in bray in Maidenhead

Ok, so I'm learning all the time, so I decided to have a lesson on the basics of the camera. I just want you tell me what you think of some photos and advise me on what I could have done to improve the image.

I hope you accept my amending your text to insert capitals and full stops. Because a number of people on CiC do not have English as their first language, as I think has maybe been pointed out before, those of us who do need to ensure we write in a way that can be understood by everyone.

I think you have made a very good job of the first two images. The one thing I wish wasn't there in the second one, is that piece of plant coming into the frame near to the top at the left-hand side.

I don't think the third one works so well. I'm not sure if the subject was the heron. If so, then it fills to small a part of the image. I also think this one is very busy and made up of a lot of unconnected bits.

You appear to have been struggling with difficult backgrounds with the previous images; but this one is excellent.

    Hi Damien,

Can you tell us why you chose those combinations of aperture, shutter speed and iso?

To help out, I have put the EXIF data with each image - it'll help us help you if you take the time to do that (please).

One observation; The base iso of the D80 is almost certainly 200 (it is on all Nikon's I know of), I wouldn't recommend going below that (e.g. to "Lo"), there's really no benefit.

    Cheers,

Damien, in the last image...the expance of the sky does not do much for the image as it is cloudless it holds little intrest. I would try cropping most of it above the tree off and see how you like it. This would also put the horizon a little closer to the thirds. Nice image.
