What a handsome young man. I love this photo His eyes just pop, and those lashes, wow - lovely. I think I would have liked to have seen the peak of the cap fully in the photo instead of cropped where it is, but all in all a stunning photo. Well done

I agree with Kerry and Donald. My only suggestion would be to try it in a 5x4 crop just to see it it balances a bit better.

Very nice image of a handsome young man. But, it appears just a tad soft on my monitor... It looks like the plane of focus is at the front of the bill of the hat rather than on the eyes. This often happens with me when I am using a wide aperture and I focus and then recompose.

OTOH, some automatic focus selections will lock in on the point of the image closest to the lens. In this case it would be the bill of the hat. In this case camera is focusing coreectly, just not on the point you would want...

I agree with Richard - not quite focused right.
Other than that I love everything about this image - the eyes, the expression, the background, the light - all very good

Such an adorable child.. with cute little teeth I think the this picture's great, catching the innocence and trust in his eyes.

Thank you! I have been having issues with that focus.. it happened in my last little shoot with him as well. I'll keep practicing with it and try some of your tips! Maybe manual focus instead of auto focus? What would your tips be for this? Thanks!

I dont think that you need to manually focus. I think you should be able to nail the focus in auto-focus mode. I am not sure which camera you are using but, I believe that most cameras will allow you to select the point of focus rather than allowing the camera to do the selection for you. I think that you should be able to select the POF at the eyes. Perhaps shooting at a smaller f/stop might help.

Otherwise it is a great portrait...
