A day out with the Hawks

I recently went on a day out with at the Hawk Conservation Trust in Hampshire which had some very good low flying displays, but here is my favourite close-up plus one of my dad holding a hawk

A day out with the Hawks

I have done a bit of PP on the first which was shot at ISO 400 1/160 f4.5 on a Fuji s6500fd. The second is pretty much straight from the camera.

Majestic, stylish, sleek ............. and the bird is nice too!

Only problem would be adjusting camera settings with those gloves on

Yes, this is improved from when I last saw it, all Rebecca's own work too, I am 200 miles away

Also, you can't see the row of heads that were in the original shot

    Well done,

    Hi Becky,

Here's an off-topic comment that you might be interested in. The San Diego evening TV news, last night, did a piece about a guy who parasails along with a hawk. The hawk is trained to fly next to the parasailor and to occasionally land on his arm while they are both hundreds of feet up.

According to the news report, this "hawk gliding" sport was invented in Nepal and the man is trying to get a California license to carry passengers.

What a great thrill that would be, shooting a flying hawk with a 28mm or so lens as it flies aling five or ten feet from you as you are suspended hundreds of feet in the air. Better have your camera well strapped to you though!

Now that would scare me (although one heck of an experience)

    Thanks,

Didn't need to, I had already had a go while the previous person was holding it - sorry; I can't remember if 'it' was a s/he

Was I not the person holding it before?! haha!

Richard that does sound like a brilliant way to get a unique picture. Shame I have a fear of heights though... and my camera shake is terrible even when my feet are firmly on the ground so can you imagine it in the air?! How brilliant it would be though to get that close to a hawk. The hawk looks quite happy to sit there on his arm for a little rest mid-flight as well!
