Hi Ken! Nice shot of the cicada! Other than the Black Prince, do you see other cicada broods in your area? I see that the Black Prince is one of the 7 year broods.
In the US, there are about 15 known major broods of 13 and 17 year cycles. This year, we experenced the worlds largest emergence of cicada (up to 1.5 million per acre) when the Great Southern Brood (Brood 19) covering the best part of 15 states emerged from the ground within a few days after hibernating for 13 years. We'll not see them again until 2024 but much smaller broods are due in 2014 (brood 22) and 2015 (brood 13) in our area. The ones we see are about 1.5" long.
