The Morikami...A Japanese Garden and Museum

The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is built to honor the Yamato (an ancient name for Japan) Colony. The Yamato Colony was a community of Japanese farmers who farmed the area that is now northern Boca Raton, Florida in the 1920's. They acquired the land from the Model Land Company, which was a subsidiary of Henry Flaglers East Coast Railroad (the East Coast Railroad developed the east coast of Florida by constucting a train line and hotels).
The Yamato Colony eventually failed and all but one farmer moved on. George Sukeji Morikami remained. He farmed his land until the mid 1970's when at 80 years old he donated his land to Palm Beach County, Florida. He stipulated that the land be preserved as a park to honor the Yamato Colony. The land is the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens.

Thanks Chuck, it is a beautiful place. A gem in South Florida, worth a visit to anyone who is in the area of Delray Beach.

I used to sell Japanese art there (woodblock prints) back in the 80's. Lovely place.

Chris I would add very in front of lovely. This was my first time there after living in Florida for ten years. I knew from seeing your photographs that you had the eye of an artist, now I know more about your artistic talents.

It looks very peaceful there. I really like the fifth shot. I think it would look good LARGE
