Re: AZ summer sunrise
Hi Mark,
welcome to CiC.
I like your picture.
I would like to give you my opinion to possible changes you could try, if you so desire. The Silhouette of the cactus / foreground IMHO could do with being a bit darker. I believe I can see some rocks in the foreground; for me they should be cropped or darken. I'm personally not sure the Sun should be so central and would have liked it repositioned, something easily done in PP.
I have made a very quick adjustment to your picture to demonstrate, my feelings, which includes a slight levelling of the horizon by 1.5 degree.
These are only my view on things (and I'm normally wrong , so don't take to much notice) and others will, I'm sure disagree with my evaluation; the main thing here is that you captured what you set out too and are happy with the results.
Well done, there are many good qualities to your picture.

Mark
Try not to center your subjects, comparing your first image with John's edit, you will see he cropped your images so that the main subject is 1/3rd to one side.
I will post a link to CIC's tutorial.

Re: AZ summer sunrise
Hi Mark,
the link Rob has posted will give you a good explanation to the effect I was trying to show. Your 2nd shot still looks to central to me, but the Cowboy brought a smile to my face.

Re: AZ summer sunrise
A very nice shot mark, just needs a little more time editing. Nothing wrong with a centered subject if it works. I think it can work here, just not dead center.
If there is one thing i've learned from donald, previsualizing the crop and composition, before you take the photo ,makes all the difference. The way you crop an image, can make a huge impact on the way it is viewed.
It's your photo, and up to you to choose how you like it best. Here is my take on it.....................
