    Retired racers.

Retired racehorses spending their twilight years in a riding school for young people.

As always all comments good or bad are gratefully accepted.

Pic 3 - the more I look at it, my left brain says its ghastly but the right side says its ok. Thoughts ?

I like #1...nice shot, and the colors around his eye are excellent.

On #2 I would have liked to see the ears..horse just doesn't look right without ears...lol

#3 reminds me of a horse a friend of mine had, and that used to beat me out in "gymkhana"
(timed events on horseback) shows back when I was a kid. His name was "Rigormortis", and
he was 22 years old, but even at his grizzled old age could still haul ass!

all great shots. But #3 does it for me. Superb detail. There is so much of the horses 'character' captured. I felt I was standing there in front of him, it is so lively and vibrant. To me this is a real 'keeper' Good work. And this is from someone who is not all that into horses.

    Ken - thanks.

When I mentioned about both liking it and not, the one word eluding me was 'character'. That was what it was about!

    Bobo...

Nice pictures, the first one has such wonderful color and texture and the eye is quite crisp and I am drawn to it for it's detail even as I try to place it in context. Nicely done.

    Re: Retired racers.

    Thanks Sabe.

You have just said something that I have only ever heard from master photographers - so you must be one of them.

Maybe a story will tell it better.

I have posted a couple of pics of a pretty girl in the Peoples section that were taken with an old out of production telephoto lens. At the same time we were playing around with another out of production 20-35L. My companions at the restaurant are all masters of the craft and do regular exhibitions and publish books etc.

Anyway my friend used my T2i and took a few with the 20-35. Then I slapped on my Sigma 17-50, shot the same subject and on review commented that both lens looked fine. The guy then pointed to the more gradual colour toning around the subject's eyes - something that never ever crossed my mind!

    So much to learn...
