Okay, so she was watching the rugby on one of your portable devices, yes? Otherwise, what sort of cruel man would take a poor young thing away from the quarter final of the World Cup?
All good (as per usual). The silhouette is a cracker.
Colin this one of the best sets I have seen yet. When are you posting more?
Thanks Donald,
Funny you should mention the Rugby ... I spent most fo the day with Kayla, her Mum - her sister joined us for the afternoon segment (where I took some family shots), and I invoted her sister along for the evening/beach shots ... but she preferred to stay home and watch the rugby!
Never been so insulted in all my life!(just kidding!)
All very nice Colin, and I must agree with Donald...#2 is a cracker!
Thanks Paul,
I had a lot of glare coming off the water whilst waiting for the sun to set, so thought I'd put it to good use. The thing you might find interesting is that it was shot at F32 @ 1/8000th @ ISO100, and there's been NO B&W conversion (it's pretty much straight out of the camera).
Just goes to show the phenominal dynamic range where specular reflections are involved.
Colin
I'm sure it would help those of who admire this work, if you were to tell us if you were using artificial lighting and what these set ups were. Obviously we can't expect the details for each shot, but to get an idea of what you were doing would be hugely informative.
Colin seems we seen this young lady before minus the lip piercing.
Hi Donald,
Sure - no problem ...
Very simple really - Shots 2, 3, and 4 are natural light only - shots 1, 5, and 6 are shot with 4x 580EX II mounted into a 4-Square (so all 4 fire as one, and into a 30" softbox). All 580EX IIs were gelled full CTO (so blues pop more when white balancing is performed).
Is that what you were meaning?
Very nice.
A nice set. But I'm finding with the last one that the blue background is very bright on my (calibrated) monitor. The large amount of negative space in the shot tends to make it worse, and my eyes keep wandering away from the model towards the right side of the image. The penultimate shot, which is a similar setting, is much better.
Hi Rob,
Welcome back, and thanks for the kind words.
When composing the shot I was drawn to the sand pointing back towards the subject (and I deliberately positioned the horizon line at eye level). The penultimate shot is my pick of the two as well, but I still thought the one in question was worthy of processing (it's from a paid location shoot, so if nothing else, it's another one for the customer).
Interestingly - the customers choice for her Facebook profile shot was actually the 4th one. More to follow from other locations shortly.
