    Photography Slang

    Being a youngster in the photography world I found some of the words used very confusing.

    Can we have a photography dictionary please.

    DOF = Depth Of Field

    Nifty = 50mm prime lens

    Tog = Photographer

    Bokeh = Quality of the out of focus parts of a picture

    over to you to add more............

    Alright Hans,

    You got me. What does RTFM mean?

    Right turn from main?
    Real torture for me?
    Ready team, forward motion?

    I could go on, but humor me and say what it really means, won't you?

    Kind regards,
    Darlene

    Hopefully, I gave you a laugh anyway.

    I guess you could say I am a bit sheltered from that kind of language. I try to be anyway. It's tough anymore, to be.

    Thanks for filling me in, Dave so I don't myself further.

    Re: Photography Slang

    How about some basics we use every day.

    ISO - International Organization for Standardisation

    What is ISO?

    We use it all the time now but many here will still remember and possibly still use ASA - American Standards Association or even DIN - Deutsches Institut für Normung. ISO is a combination of the two and kind of just crept in and took over from ASA.
    I find myself using ISO when talking about digital photography but fall back on ASA when I talk about film, no idea why its just what I grew up with and it sticks.
