    had hopes for nice clouds

It was such a nice night last night...I figured I would take a little walk on the beach and hope for some nice cloud formations. At the beach all the clouds of the day were gone, however due to the forrest fire on the peninsula there was a bit of brownish haze on the mountain range which made for some interesting shots. Just sharing but C&C always welcome.

Very attractive shots - pity about what caused the colouring though, hope the fire didn't do too much damage. I'm not in a position to offer any real cc apart from suggesting a sky crop in 2 and 4 ,especially 4 down to just above the darker orange and that would also give it a better perspective, as it is it's dominating the scene -if you place a piece of paper there you can see if you like that idea.

I like the little one tossing the rock, and the last shot with the silhouetted family and

the ferry. Smoke does add a different look, doesn't it?

Sure hope they can get a handle on these fires, but the weatherman says it's going to
get even hotter tomorrow, and stay that way for a few more days. Should be cooled off
some by Wednesday...(and that's just too far away)...

    Thanks John...I'll check that out.
Mike...crazy weather we have had. The hottest week all year and summer is near over. I also hope the get a handle on these fires soon. I may be passing through your area on Sunday, thinking about a little bike ride up 20 towards the dam. Maybe a couple pics on the way up. Love the area out there.

    Hi Paul,

Definately something to see in all of them beyond the pretty clouds/smoke.

I agree with John's suggested crops, it certainly enhances both images in my view.

#1 has nice depth, but the canoeist has just passed the idea compositional position unfortunately.

The ones with a closer human element (#2, #4) are my favourites, but probably for that very reason, not that the others are worse technically.

An above average series never-the-less, well done,

    Beautiful series Paul,

Excluding the B&W, which to me is an excellent but ordinary shot, I'd be hard pressed to pick out a favourite. Although tied together here by the colour, lighting and place, each of the three have their own separate composition and interest and are all lovely and well above average.

Cropping is a very subjective thing, every person looking at a picture has their own idea about how the shot could be improved, but as Donald said to me recently, and I'm paraphrasing, "The picture that you 'saw' in your head at the time you pressed the shutter", is the right one (my words).

Having said all that, I too think #2 and #4 would improve from a wee crop at the top

Thanks to all of you! I do have to agree on the crop, it does work nicely and is more the photo I saw when pressing the shutter.
