    Zoo Birds

Took a little trip to the National Zoo's bird house and outdoor flight area. Here is a sampling of some of the photos I took.
    C&C welcomed and encouraged.

    Hi Frankie...
I suggest that you might try some flash fill... It might open the shadows and balance your subjects exposure so the background would not blow out...

Agreed with Richard - great composition, just needs a little lighting help.

Thank you Richard and Andrew. It was late afternoon when I took those shots and I wasn't paying attention to the light. I'll have to learn to pay more attention in the future.
They were some fun birds to shoot though.

I like the photo of the peahen best. I like the framing and the way it almost appears monochrome with that nice green color popping out.
If you use fill flash in a similar situation in the future, I would suggest playing with the FEV and/or trying some manual flash controls. Any chance for off-camera flash here?
Those are some pretty cool birds and I would be interested to see more of them with suggestions others have provided.
    Thanks for posting!

Thank you Brian. I'll have to play with using flash some.
They are some interesting birds, but the color contrast does make it harder to get the shot.
    Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing James! I love the 2nd one of the Asian Fairy Bluebird - one of my favorite birds.
The National Zoo is one of my favorite places to go to when i have some time. I don't go as often as i used to because I tend to be working with the butterflies when I have free time on the weekends.
Thanks again for sharing and glad to hear you had a great time in the city!

Good shots Frankie, the first two are, for me, the strongest and I note the exact same branch for yours and James's Asian Friary Bluebirds

    Cheers,
