    NEVER Smile at a Crocodile!

Experimenting with close shots without a Macro lens. C&C is always welcome, especially when working in unfamiliar territory!

    NEVER Smile at a Crocodile!

Never smile at a crocodile, no, you can't get friendly with a crocodile.
Don't be taken in by his welcome grin, he's imagining how well you'd fit within his skin!

LOL! More like the 55-300 at MAX zoom! And I didn't smile at him either!

Well, I've learned something. This is an Alligator, NOT a Crocodile! How can we tell looking at this photo? The jawline is curved. If it was a crocodile it would be straight and usually you would see more of the tips of both the upper and lower jaw teeth when the mouth is closed. You might not notice in this shot but a crocodile’s jaw is narrower. I guess it's alright to smile at an alligator but I still wouldn't want to get too close, just in case.

I also can't spell Crockodile? Crocodile? whatever!

Lovely rendering of detail. And a good idea to see that getting in close like this would work. We spoke about that in the context of landscapes in a couple of other threads, but it works in this context as well.

You don't always have to show the whole thing to tell the story. Good work, Frank.

I'm no expert photogrpaher - but I love reptiles.
And I love the detail on the photo - this will help me to think about focusing in when I'm trying wild life.
    Thank you!

My pleasure! There are many ways to 'see' a subject, this is but one. Enjoy the exploration!
