    I don't have the proper lens for birds but I think the picture is interesting for woodpeckers lovers. Does someone happens to know about this "artistic" behavior? I have 4 woodpeckers in my tree.

    Mystery solved
    The sapsuckers caused the damage by pecking horizontal rows of regularly spaced, small holes through the bark to the sapwood. Unlike other woodpeckers, sapsuckers do not drill these holes in search of grubs or worms but to drink the sap that oozes into the holes. I was amazed by the precision and .. perseverance.
