Photoshop CS4's Content Aware Scaling/Resizing
I noticed that CS4 now has content aware scaling (I watched a youtube video about that kind of technique about a year ago, and I was stunned)...
is Photoshop using this to "do the rest" like you mentioned?
btw, the youtube video is at

I would recommend it, it's really interesting and make me say...damn, that makes perfect sense...so easy!...

Edit: that would be from Pixel aspect ratio setting vs Cropping the photo before the thread split...

Re: Photoshop CS4's Content Aware Scaling/Resizing
I haven't seen it in action yet - but what I have observed is that normally when I change the aspect ratio of a print from 1:1.5 to 1:2 - although it distorts the image - it usually does it in a way that's pleasing to the eye (even though it's a straight linear interpolation with no "protected zones".
... possibly a bit like wide-screen TVs; it's something that they brain seems to quickly adapt to and after that it just seems normal.

Re: Photoshop CS4's Content Aware Scaling/Resizing
I have Cs4, have tested but not actually used the content aware scaling for anything as of yet.
