Willie or Jiro is fine by me.

    Consummation. Warning: Viewers Discretion Advised.

I think this is a pair of Banded Orange Butterflies doing their "thing" when we visited the Butterfly Cage inside the San Antonio Zoo in Texas. Thank you very much for viewing.

So much "adult content" on this site any more... haha

Nice capture, Willie. The bright colors of the butterflies set against the verdant green foliage is fantastic.

    Consummation.

Yeah I wonder why they do that in public?
Pictures were taken in the Butterfly Garden in Bohol last summer. Your butterflies are nice, hope they can...nevahmind.

Nice shots, Jiro and Al. Hope you gave the little fellows some privacy afterwards.

Since some would call me an amateur Lepidopterist (AKA Butterfly Nerd ), I'll confirm that yes, Willie, those are two Banded Orange Longwings (Dryadula phaetusa) mating. And Al, your mating couple are Clipper butterflies (Parthenos sylvia).

Here is an out of focus shot (the wind kept blowing them around) of a couple of Gold Rim Swallowtails (Battus polydamas) taken at The Butterfly Farm in Costa Rica.

    Consummation.

Beautifully shot Willie. But shouldn't there be an R rated warning on this post? And as for Frankie and her incredible insight into how we actually get baby butterflies... (" Donald? Donald? Oh, where is that man when you need him! " )

Thanks, Ken. I'll change the title and add a warning then.

As one caterpillar said to another as they watched a butterfly go by... "You'll never get me up in one of those things!"

Thank you Frankie for the information, and I believe you really are a lepidopterist! How can you distinguish each of them?

I volunteer at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History's Butterfly Pavilion. I started out going there to photograph the butterflies. I can't have a photo of something I don't know what it is, so I learned all the butterflies and the staff recruited me to volunteer. So, I am the resident butterfly nerd among all the volunteers

Ok - I couldn't resist. While at the Butterfly Pavilion yesterday I practically walked into this pair of Giant Swallowtails (Papilio cresphontes).

I like it, Frankie. The wings are spread out showing the full detail of the wing design. Nice! Thanks for sharing.
