Willie or Jiro is fine by me.

I like it! Usually, Japanese paintings go portrait mode and if I rotate this to go vertical the effect is even nicer! Very well spotted and processed, Pstearns. Good shot!

Thank you for the comment and direction. You are right- it does look nicer in a vertical position. I appreciate the comments.

Thank you for the comment. I'm just getting back into photography (with good equipment) after a several year hiatus. Nice to find a venue to display my work and get some feedback. Also, this is a great educational site.

    Paul...

I like this image very much. The delicate colors ad the repeating shapes are very soothing...

    Paul,

After seeing the vertical orientation, I have to say that I think the darker area towards the bottom is a little distracting. I didn't notice it as much with the horizontal version, but in the vertical, I feel my eyes constantly drifting down to that area. Perhaps a crop might eliminate that? I just feel that the greens and pinks are so vibrant in the rest of the shot that the muted colors in that section take a bit away from such a strong photo.

But I do love the colors in the shot - very soothing despite being a combination of colors that you normally don't see together or think of as soothing.

    - Bill

Thank you all for the comments. Here is the same image with a slightly different cropping. I think the dark area give the image more depth than providing distraction.

    Re: Japanese Painted Fern

    Hi Paul,

I do prefer the third version, but you uploaded it at 1,077px (W) × 1,384px (H), which displays at 700px tall in forum, but even if clicked and viewed in a Lytebox, cannot fit on most people's screens as their screen height is liable to be 1080px or less. In both cases, that will not display it as sharp as you made it in PP, which is a shame.

I would recommend downsizing portrait orientation shots to 1000px maximum height, then sharpening, before posting, with a comment that says "use F11 then click image to see full size".

Have a look here, further down is a post about image quality issues that may assist.
HELP THREAD: How can I post images here?

    Hope that helps,
